We are going to announce the formation of a book club here soon with an emphasis on books that illustrate great leadership in business and life. The first book we will be discussing is entitled True North by Bill George. George begins his book saying, “As the world becomes ever more dangerous and our problems more complex and dire, we long for truly distinguished leaders; men and women who deserve our respect and loyalty. Instead, we have suffered far too much bad leadership in recent years.” These sentences are somewhat dramatic and depressing, I know, but I think it is true.
This is why awesome companies like PeopleSmarts are around, to increase the much needed EQ in leaders and employees of all kinds of organizations. Many people have the assumption that intellectual achievement, or “being smart”, is the only factor that goes into being a successful and great leader. EQ is just as much, if not more so, a factor for success.
According to George, the five dimensions of an authentic leader are:
- Pursuing purpose with passion
- Practicing solid values
- Leading with heart
- Establishing enduring relationships
- Demonstrating self discipline
These five points are geared more toward a higher EQ than IQ. This is why we (PeopleSmarts) are passionate about EQ and what it can do for you. Let me us know if you’d like to learn more about our book club or your consulting opportunities.
